Beware: Tax Refund Scams in Email Links

Making alert to the tricks used by fraudsters. HMRC is urging people to be alert to the tricks used by fraudsters to persuade them to give away personal details. The tax authority is processing tax refunds for 2018-19 and will only tell taxpayers about refunds by post or through tax calculation, P800 under PAYE. It states that all emails, text messages or voicemail messages purporting someone is due a tax refund are a scam. HMRC advises recipients not to click on any links but to forward emails to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk and texts to 60599, or contact Action Fraud on 0300 [...]

Changes to off-payroll working from April 2020

The rules for individuals providing services to the public sector via an intermediary such as a Personal Service Company (PSC), changed from April 2017. The new rules shifted the responsibility for deciding whether the intermediaries’ legislation applied, known as IR35, from the intermediary to the public sector receiving the service (also known as the engager).
